First flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery. First deployment of three satellites on a single mission. First flight of a commercial payload specialist. A 105-foot tall solar array became the largest structure ever extended from a spacecraft. Landed September 5 at 6:37 AM, PDT at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. Traveled 2.21 million miles in 97 orbits.
